AvaMate is a DiGA (one of Germany's digital health applications – 'apps on prescription') that provides scientifically grounded support to teenagers with obesity aged 13 to 18. Concept, design and development – delivered as a native app for iOS and Android built with Flutter – all came from us.
Building healthy habits without lecturing.
Obesity in adolescence is a sensitive topic. An app that accompanies teenagers has to motivate rather than lecture, show progress rather than demand perfection – and stand on a scientifically sound foundation developed together with medical professionals.
The requirement: a digital companion that takes activity, nutrition, mood and sleep into account and turns them into individual, age-appropriate prompts – as a certified medical device under the DiGAV, Germany's Digital Health Applications Ordinance.
A personal avatar instead of calorie counting.
We developed AvaMate end to end, from concept to store release: a personal avatar accompanies users every day, a scientifically developed decision tree delivers individual tips, and a reward system with coins and unlockable avatars turns twelve weeks of support into a programme that is fun instead of building up pressure.
Built with Flutter for a shared codebase on iOS and Android – including a GDPR-compliant architecture and preparation for the listing procedure at the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM).
